Simaddon's Halifax |
Due south of Charlottestown is the capital of Nova Scotia: Halifax.
The metropolitan area had a population of 414,400 in 2014 with 297,943 in the urban area centred on Halifax Harbour. Halifax is considered a global city and is a major economic centre in Atlantic Canada with a large concentration of government services and private sector companies. Major employers and economic generators include the Department of National Defence, Dalhousie University, Saint Mary's University, the Halifax Shipyard, various levels of government, and the Port of Halifax. Agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry and natural gas extraction are major resource industries found in the rural areas of the municipality. Halifax was ranked by MoneySense magazine as the fourth best place to live in Canada for 2012, placed first on a list of "large cities by quality of life" and placed second in a list of "large cities of the future", both conducted by fDi Magazine for North and South American cities. Additionally, Halifax has consistently placed in the top 10 for business friendliness of North and South American cities, as conducted by fDi Magazine.
Halifax/Robert L. Stanfield International Airport serves Halifax, mainland Nova Scotia and adjacent areas in the neighbouring Maritime provinces. The airport is named in honour of Robert Stanfield, the 17th Premier of Nova Scotia and leader of the federal Progressive Conservative Party of Canada.
It is the 8th busiest airport in Canada by passenger traffic. The airport handled a total of 3,702,705 passengers and 78,324 aircraft movements in 2015.[4] It is a hub for Air Canada Express, Cougar Helicopters, Maritime Air Charter, Provincial Airlines, and SkyLink Express.
This leg of my world tour was uneventful. This airport is the largest airport I will stop at on the Canadian leg of my world tour.
Both sceneries, Charlottestown and Halifax, were made by Simaddons. Halifax is part of the base pack which is needed for the other sceneries. The other airports in the basepack were the sceneries used in the next four flights. Charlottestown is a separate addon pack, which includes both Charlottestown and the Charlottestown waterdome.
Halifax also is the destination for Around the World in 80 Flights, Flight Number 66: Bangor to Halifax. Obviously, I have added a few additional stops between Bangor and Halifax: St. John's, Moncton and Charlottestown. The next flight in Around the World in 80 Flights (flight number 67) was directly to Greenland. I plan on exploring Nova Scotia and Newfoundland before heading off to Greenland.
